Meet the 2023 P2GS Scholars

Pathway to Graduate Studies Scholars participate in science education during the morning and in a paid research program under the supervision of a UWinnipeg faculty member during the afternoon throughout the four week program. Students are introduced to research opportunities in the NSE fields and to continue pursuing their interests in undergraduate programs and eventually into graduate programs.

Hello! Taanishi!

My name is Jenna Carlson and I am a proud Métis student at the University of Winnipeg. I am currently wrapping up my first year and plan to pursue a BSc in Neuroscience. I intend to one day become a PhD or MD in order to help with the mental illness and addiction affecting our nation.

Tansi, my name is Neepin Cook and I am from Misipawisitk Cree Nation. I am a first-year student at U of W, working towards my 4-yr BA in Environmental Studies. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to become an environmental advocate. The last few summers, I have worked within the forestry sector, primarily with Indigenous Youth to help create a space for people to understand forestry is not always harmful. Eventually, once I obtain my degree, I would love to create relationships between Indigenous communities and forestry companies to shape welcoming spaces for both parties to cooperate and collaborate. I am excited to participate in the P2GS program because I believe the experience will help me work towards my goals.

Neepin Cook is training with Dr. Srimathie Indraratne.

Seven Kelly standingSeven Kelly

Hello!

My name is Seven Kelly, and I am a First Nations 1st year student on the road through U1. I will be working with Dr. Jeff Martin in the Physics department.

When I met Jeff we had discussed the field of Quantum Computing, something I've been thoroughly interested in and enthusiastic about for quite a while now.

I myself have operated computer systems for a good majority of my life, and want to learn more about new forms of "modern computing." Needless to say, I am very excited to work with him!

Maya TigheMaya Tighe

Hi my name is Maya Tighe and I am currently in my second year of BSc in biochemistry. I intend to enter the health care field once completed my studies and will be working in rural communities in the North to hopefully help combat the increasingly low access to health care.

I love to try new things but I often feel like in university I don’t have the opportunity to do so. I am excited to learn more about computational chemistry whilst working with Dr. Josh Hollett and am very glad to be given the opportunity to experience unknown topics.
