The Tri-Council, or Tri-Agencies, are Canada's three federal granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Master's (CGRS M)

The objective of the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Master's  (CGRS M) program is to help develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

2026-2027 Value: $27,000 for 12 months, non-renewable

2026-2027 Deadline: The deadline for CGRS M applications is December 1 before 7:00 pm CT.

Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Doctoral (CGRS D)

The Canada Graduate Research Scholarship — Doctoral (CGRS D) program recognizes and supports the next generation of outstanding innovators, knowledge workers, creative thinkers and researchers. By providing support for a high-quality research training experience to awardees, the program strives to foster impacts within and beyond the research environment.

2026-2027 Value: $40,000 annually for up to 36 months

2026-2027 Deadlines:
Through The University of Winnipeg: October 10, 2025
Directly to the agencies: October 17, 2025

Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement

The Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements (CGS-MSFSS) support high-calibre Canadian graduate students in building global linkages and international networks through the pursuit of exceptional research experiences at research institutions abroad. By accessing international scientific research and training, CGS-MSFSS recipients will contribute to strengthening the potential for collaboration between Canadian and foreign institutions.
