Living in residence at UWinnipeg gives students the opportunity to live on their own, without being alone. Our homestay program is a great way to discover Winnipeg, practice your English language skills, and learn about Canadian life and culture in a safe, comfortable home environment.

Living on campus is a remarkable experience. You'll be part of a community and meet new people from around the world. Living minutes away from the UWinnipeg campus, gives you access to facilities and resources like study areas, common lounges and gyms.

This is a great way to familiarize yourself with your new environment. Students are matched with an English-speaking host family, giving them the opportunity to practice English language skills while learning about Canadian life and culture. Host families are screened and selected carefully by the ELP Student Life team.

The host family will provide students with a safe, functional, and comfortable home environment where they feel at ease and are encouraged to use their English skills.

How do I apply?

1. Read and agree to all terms and conditions of the program as stated on the UWinnipeg Homestay Program application.

2. Complete your application form.

3. Submit your Homestay application form along with the required payments before the application deadline which is one month before the start of the program.

4. Submit your flight information at least four weeks before the program start date. You will be matched with a host family when we receive this information.

Become a UWinnipeg Homestay Host Family

Open your home to an international student and enjoy a cross-cultural exchange that will provide lasting memories for your family! The most important criteria for a host family is genuine desire to share family life with an international student. The main role of the host family is to provide a safe, functional and comfortable home environment within which the student feels at ease and is encouraged to use their English skills. The host family is required to speak English with the international student. All hosts are required to have a Police Information Check (vulnerable sector included) and a Child Abuse Registry completed.
