Graduate Student Funding
Graduate student funding packages may consist of a combination of entrance awards offered by individual programs, supervisor awards, research and teaching assistantships, and internal and external competitive awards to which students apply. Funding packages vary between graduate programs, and students should contact their Graduate Program Committee Chairs for information about program-specific funding packages.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies has a selection of competitive awards and scholarships to assist students in funding their studies. Below you can find more information about these, as well as a list of competitive scholarship opportunities from other sources. Each opportunity has different deadlines, eligibility, and application processes, so please read the descriptions carefully. The University of Winnipeg Faculty of Graduate Studies has an array of awards and scholarships to assist students in funding their graduate studies. Scholarships, funded by the province and/or the generosity of the university's donors, are awarded to outstanding applicants. Below is a list of the major internal scholarships facilitated by the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

University of Winnipeg Awards and Financial Aid
Financial assistance administered by the Awards and Financial Aid Office offers a comprehensive program of scholarships, awards, prizes and bursaries. Awards administered through the Awards & Financial Aid Office are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. They have information about awards available to Indigenous students , international students, and students with disabilities.

University of Winnipeg Office of Research and Innovation
The Office of Research and Innovation offers several funding opportunities for graduate students. Please visit their Student Research Funding page for more information.
The Research Manitoba Studentships support highly qualified graduate trainees in health, the social sciences and humanities, and the natural sciences and engineering, to prepare for careers as independent researchers in industry or within Manitoba’s research enterprise. Awards consist of an annual stipend of either $20,000 for Master's students or $25,000 for PhD students, and may be held for a maximum of one-year.
Applicants may be either international or domestic students, in any year of their program. Please see the linked page for further information.
The Tri-Council consists of Canada's three federal granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
Awards of up to $27,000/one year are available at the Master's levels, and awards of up to $40,000 annually for up to three years are available at the doctoral level.

Mitacs
Mitacs is a national not-for-profit that helps industry and non-profit partners solve strategic challenges by leveraging Canada's world-class post-secondary talent and a global network of industry, academic, and government partnerships. Through these collaborations, Mitacs helps business and community partners succeed, improves students' on-the-job skills development, and strengthens Canada's world-class innovation ecosystem.

Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships
The Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships offers generous scholarships for PhD students with research broadly related to the humanities and social sciences or human sciences and is directly relevant to the future of Canada.
Senior Women Academic Administrator's of Canada
The Senior Women Academic Administrator's of Canada offer awards to students across Canada on a rotating basis.
W.L. Mackenzie King Memorial Scholarships
Two classes of Mackenzie King Scholarship are available. Both are to support graduate study by graduates of Canadian universities. Those whose previous degrees are from outside Canada are ineligible to apply, notwithstanding that they seek support for doing graduate studies in Canada.
The Open Scholarship is available to graduates of Canadian universities who pursue graduate study in any discipline, in Canada or elsewhere. One Open Scholarship is awarded each year. The value has recently been about $13,000 but it is subject to change.
The Travelling Scholarship is available to graduates of Canadian universities who pursue graduate study in the United States or the United Kingdom in the areas of international relations or industrial relations. Recently four scholarships of $15,000 each have been awarded annually, but the number and the amount are subject to change.

EduCanada
EduCanada maintains a list of scholarships for international students to study in Canada, and for Canadian students to study abroad.
The purpose of the Graduate Student Knowledge Mobilization Grants (formerly "Graduate Student Travel Grants") is to support the professional advancement of graduate students and raise the profile of the University by providing funding towards costs associated with knowledge mobilization activities such as presenting at conferences (in-person or virtual) and publication in open access venues. Students may be reimbursed up to $750 for costs associated with these activities.
