General Information for International Students

Over 12% of the student population at The University of Winnipeg are international students. That is more than 1,000 students from 75 countries!  The University of Winnipeg is dedicated to ensuring that all students have equal access to higher learning. As a result of this mandate there are support services and programs in place like financial assistance to make that happen.

There are a wide variety of ways to fund your education as an international student. Unless otherwise stated, all full-time and part-time students are eligible for Entrance and In-Course awards as long as they meet the published criteria.

The University of Winnipeg President's Scholarship for World Leaders is awarded to international students entering any of the University's divisions for the first time:
Undergraduate, Graduate, Collegiate , PACE or ELP.

How to apply:

  1. Download the PDF form and read it carefully.
  2. Complete the application in full. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  3. Write and attach a personal statement.
  4. Attach your resume - ensure you outline activities that demonstrate leadership.
  5. Attach your two reference letters. Letters must be in English and should outline your character, achievements and ways in which you are a leader in your school or community.
  6. Mail your application, personal statement, resume and references to us at the address on the application form by the deadline. Deadlines listed below for each division and term you are starting studies.
  7. Scholarship applicants must also complete an application for admission into The University of Winnipeg by the scholarship deadline date.
  8. Currently accepting scanned applications by email. References can be submitted directly to our office or included in your application package. Please send your complete application, including supporting documents, in one PDF document to awards@uwinnipeg.ca

GRADUATE - 3 awards of $5,000 each
  • Fall 2020 - Monday, June 1, 2020
  • Winter 2021 - Monday, June 1, 2020
COLLEGIATE - 3 awards of $3,500 each
  • Fall 2020 - Monday, June 1, 2020
PACE - 3 awards of $3,500 each
  • Spring/Summer 2020 - Monday, March 2, 2020
  • Fall 2020 - Monday, June 1, 2020
  • Winter 2021 - Thursday, October 1st, 2020
ELP - 3 awards at $3,500 each
  • Spring/Summer 2020 - Monday, March 2, 2020
  • Fall 2020 - Monday, June 1, 2020

Student Aid for International Students:

USA Student Loans

Students from the United States attending The University of Winnipeg are eligible for student financial assistance.

Canadian Government Student Aid?:

Canadian government student aid and loans are not currently available to international students.
To qualify for government student aid, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant) or protected person.
