Grad Students Sweep University-wide Photography Competition

From northern skies to underwater scenes, this year’s winners of Research in Focus showcased the vividness and originality of research taking place at The University of Winnipeg... Especially the research done by graduate students.
Winners of the second annual research photography competition were announced on March 13.
An interdisciplinary panel of judges selected first-place and runner-up winners in six categories, as well as a grand prize winner. Members of the University community voted online for Viewer's Choice. Both awards went to graduate students.
Chathuri Mudalige (Environmental and Social Change) won Viewers Choice for "A Toxic Glimpse: The Fate of Liver Cells Under Chemical Stress", and Malcolm Reimer (Bioscience, Technology, and Public Policy) won the Grand Prize for "Ultraviolet Glow-Up".
Other grad students took won first-place and runner-up in a number of competition categories:
- Artistry in Research Winner: Anouska Agarwal Bioscience, Technology, and Public Policy) for "Under Aurora's Watch: A Night with Bats"
- Community Catalyst Winner: Mohammad Anas Shoebullah Khan (alum, Environmental and Social Change) for "Dried Fish For Life! "
- Faces of Discovery Winner: Grand Prize Winner: Malcolm Reimer (Bioscience, Technology, and Public Policy) for "Ultraviolet Glow-Up"
- Faces of Discovery Runner-Up: Mohammad Anas Shoebullah Khan (alumni, Environmental and Social Change) for "Strings of Sight: Seeing Life Through Fish Drying Racks "
- Framing Fieldwork Runner-Up: Mohammad Anas Shoebullah Khan (alumni, Environmental and Social Change) for "Beyond the Boat: All Hands Off Deck"
- Framing Fieldwork Runner-Up: Riley Verslius (Bioscience, Technology, and Public Policy) for "A Fishermans Morning"
- Powered Perception Runner-Up: Chathuri Mudalige (Environmental and Social Change) for "A Toxic Glimpse: The Fate of Liver Cells Under Chemical Stress"
- Best Description: Malcolm Reimer (Bioscience, Technology, and Public Policy) for "Ultraviolet Glow-Up"
