Global College hosted a documentary screening and storytelling session on March 27, 2024 with filmmaker and University of Manitoba PhD student, Minket Lepcha. The documentary, "Voice of Teesta," is based on the Himalayan River Teesta and was screened at the University of Winnipeg to create awareness regarding the GLOF (Glacial Lake Outburst Flood) on River Teesta in October 2023.

The film captures the local voices of those who are dependent on the River Teesta for socio, cultural, and economic reasons and explores thought-provoking themes such as relationships with water, Indigenous resistance against dominant norms like hydropower dams, and the power of storytelling.

The film is being screened worldwide, with the goal of providing a space for the audience to reflect on their relationship with water.

The participants were mainly from Winnipeg. Dion Dick, a community health worker from Grand Rapids, also shared his story on the impact of dams in his region.

The event provided an opportunity for people to come together and share their stories, fostering a sense of community.
