Fri. Mar. 8, 2024

Happy International Women's Day from Global College!

Fourth-year Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Studies student and Global College Student Advisory Council (GCSAC) co-chair, Meagan Dutka, and Dr. Shauna Labman attended an event yesterday at Government House in celebration of International Women's Day, hosted by the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, The Honourable Anita Neville.

The theme of the event was #InvestInWomen, a clear call to action and a reminder that gender equality is one of the most effective ways to build healthier, wealthier and more inclusive communities. The event provided the opportunity to network with a diverse group of other Manitoba women who are leaders or emerging leaders and who have contributed to Manitoba's health, well-being, and social, cultural, and economic life.

Meagan describes what the event meant to her, in her own words:

"What better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than to spend it amongst some of the province’s most esteemed female leaders- And in the home of Manitoba’s own, Lieutenant Governor Anita Neville!

I am truly so humbled and honoured to have been a part of such a wonderful evening spent making new connections and hearing about the positive work being done across the province by strong, intelligent, driven women. Thank you to my own female role model, Dr. Shauna Labman, for inviting me to take part in this unforgettable experience.

Empowered women, empower women."
