General Update

Recreation Services

Effective Friday, September 3rd, following the requirements of Manitoba Health relating to COVID-19 and guidance from the University, Recreation Services has implemented the following policies:

  • Face masks must be worn when in the presence of others and in common indoor areas throughout the facility. Face masks may be removed during physical activity. Masks must be worn immediately before and after physical activities/sporting events and when moving through the facilities.

  • Physical distancing is not required for individuals participating in physical activities. Spectators will be required to maintain 2 metres physical distancing at all times. We recommended limiting spectators to 1 spectator per participant.

  • Adult users of indoor recreation facilities must be fully vaccinated, as per the current Public Health Order. All users/spectators 18 years and older will be required to show proof of vaccination when entering the Duckworth Centre and RecPlex. Access to the Duckworth Centre and RecPlex will not be granted without an appropriate form of vaccination verification.

  • All Fitness Centre members (who are not UWinnipeg students, faculty or staff) will be required to show one time proof of vaccination in order to receive a campus-access sticker that will be affixed to their membership card. The membership card can then be used to gain access to UWinnipeg recreation facilities.

  • UWinnipeg faculty, staff, and students who are fully vaccinated will be required to present their student card or staff ID, with campus-access sticker attached. UWinnipeg faculty, staff and students, please see the Campus Access Process for direction.

  • All other facility users must provide a QR code or physical vaccination card made available through Shared Health Manitoba AND photo ID each time they enter the facilities.

  • Recreation facilities will follow an enhanced cleaning schedule using Health Canada Covid-19 approved cleaning products. An ample supply of cleaning product and hand sanitizer will be made available to users.

We will continue to monitor recommendations from Manitoba Health and make necessary changes as this fluid situation develops. Please direct inquiries to recreationservices@uwinnipeg.ca

Turf Installation update: Our manufacturer has communicated that raw materials necessary to produce the new artificial turf are in short supply, similar to many industries during the pandemic. Consequently, installation of the new turf has been postponed until the Christmas break. Replacement of the new turf will begin on Dec. 17th and end on Jan. 10th. We appreciate your patience as we work to schedule upgrades and activities in these unprecedented times.

Effective Sept. 7th, fall Fitness Centre hours: 6:00 am to 9:45 pm Monday to Friday and 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Saturdays and Sundays. Towel Service and equipment rentals are not available at this time.

Check UWinnipeg's COVID-19 website regularly for ongoing campus updates.
