Purpose: This two-day academic writing retreat is a professional development event intended to facilitate scholars’ immersion in writing by providing dedicated time and space for writing and support from Research Office and Library staff.

Venue: Pineridge Hollow, see here for directions (App-based directions are not always accurate!)

  • Quiet/silent space: Spruce Forest Room: a geodesic dome, furnished and nestled in the woods
  • Talking space: The Village Studio: an open concept studio that includes a kitchenette, featuring large windows with lots of natural light.
  • Other spaces: Pineridge Hollow includes forest trails, gardens, restaurants, gift shops, and a petting farm. There are ample spaces suitable for writing outside the spaces booked specifically for the Writing Retreat.
  • Parking: Ample free parking is available on-site

Date: August 15 and 16, 2023

Flexible Schedule:

  • Arrive as early as 8:30
  • Spaces reserved specifically for the Writing Retreat are available from 8:30-4:30
  • If you wish, explore the grounds, discuss your writing with a colleague, or join a workshop (no registration required)

Refreshments:

  • Coffee, tea, water, and lunch will be provided
  • If desired, many dining, drinking and snacking options are available, including Pineridge Hollow’s restaurant, Nuburger, Empty Cup, Hildegard’s Bakery, The Farmer’s Kitchen Grocery Store, The Square Pub and Eatery.

  • Brianne Selman, Scholarly Communications and Copyright Librarian: all things publishing

Items you many want to bring:

  • Fully charged laptop + charging cord + extension cord
  • Any resources you need to write (some spaces do not have WIFI for fewer distractions)
  • Headphones or earplugs
  • Comfortable shoes (the path to the Spruce Forest Room is not paved!)
  • Sunscreen, bug spray
  • A chair, seat, or blanket if you intend on finding your own space on the grounds
