Holliday Holmes-Fisher Title: YU@W Participant

Biography:

Holliday Holmes-Fisher. 23 years old majoring in Human Rights and Criminal Justice, graduating in 2020

I wanted to participate in this program, so I could explore the field of social justice and understand how agencies are working to support and improve peoples lives. I have an interest in Indigenous rights and have some experience with some of the events that they encounter on a daily basis.

I hope to learn the skills and assets that can help me in my future career. I am in the process of finding my own identity and where I stand when it comes to reconciliation. I have an interest in pursuing a career with the Truth and Reconciliation committee to help better the lives of those who have survived the impacts of colonization.

I am a Métis woman who is still learning about my own background. I believe reconciliation starts with education. I believe it is about listening to what our First Nations need and want to better their lives. I believe the systems that the government has in place are currently keeping people in marginal brackets that make it extremely hard to break free from.
