Presentation and Public Speaking Workshop

All graduate students are invited to an interactive Presentation and Public Speaking workshop hosted by Tom Soares from the Department of Theatre & Film.

This two-hour workshop will cover the following topics:

-How to deal with anxiety or stress of speaking
-How to enter a room and approach the podium
-How to use the podium
-How to use a microphone
-body language that engages and creates trust (including eye contact, use of hands and arms and face)
-using space

The use of the voice to engage, including :
-basics of the voice (breath and how stress effects it and the voice)
-use of phrasing and pausing
-being heard (volume)
- appropriate use of pitch and pace
- vocal dynamics and its connection to content
- making sure that the voice and body are clarifying the message and thoughts

By the end of this session, participants will learn methods of presenting as a more confident speaker and to keep an audience focused and engaged with you and your material.

**Though not mandatory - participants are requested to bring some of their research or course material to practice with, for an opportunity to receive feedback**
