Beginning University Successfully (BUS) Program students enrolled in Academic Writing present Literacy Narratives on CKUW 95.9

On Dec 22nd and 27th, 2024, CKUW 95.9 aired a program entitled Recalling Past Memories: What and How we Learned. The program was hosted and presented by students currently enrolled in the Beginning University Successfully (BUS) Program, offered through the Urban & Inner-City Studies department at The University of Winnipeg. As part of the program, students take an Academic Writing class (RHET 1110-130) that meets at Merchant’s Corner on Thursday afternoons. CKUW Program Director Scott Price coached the students and recorded the program. The students shared Literacy Narratives, a class assignment that prompted them to write personal experience stories about learning. The Literacy Narratives did not specifically need to be about learning to read and write but could be about any skill that they learned in life. The writings covered topics such as learning to be an advocate, learning to parent, learning to overcome pride, learning about the value of friendships and appreciating relationships before they are gone.
