Throughout Thrive Week, the University of Winnipeg is coming together to present a full slate of events and activities to help our entire campus community, including all students, faculty, and staff, thrive throughout the academic year.

Weeklong Thrive Events

Wellness Photo Contest

Hosted by: Student Counselling Services and Employee Health and Wellness (HR)
When: All Week

Show us how you practice wellness! For a chance to win a UWinnipeg Bookstore gift card (value $50), we are challenging you to submit a photo of your favourite wellness activity – whether it's walking, meditating, painting, cooking, pet therapy, or anything else! Your submissions may be shared to inspire other members of the UWinnipeg community to practice wellness in their own lives.

Contest and Submission Details:

  • Open to UWinnipeg students, staff and faculty, with one prize for students and one for staff/faculty.
  • The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 17th at 12pm.
  • One photo submission per person and the photo must be taken by you!
  • The winner will be decided by random draw and will be contacted via email.
  • Photos can be submitted by completing the following Microsoft Form.
Self-Care Bingo

Self Care Bingo

Complete your Self-Care Bingo card for a chance to win a prize! To access the card, download from the Thrive webpage or visit @uwinnipegrestimes on Instagram. Take a photo of yourself doing each activity to form one row on the card. To submit your entry for the prize draw, attach your photos in an email to housing@uwinnipeg.ca. Please label the photo with the activity that it is representing. Good luck!

Adult Colouring

Relax with Movies and Colouring Contest

Come to the store to sit, relax, and watch movies – or just sit and colour! Movies will begin screnning at 10 a.m. and continue on through to 3 p.m. Stay as long as you like and don’t forget to enter our colouring contest!

Thrive Quiz – Day 1

Thrive Kick-off Breakfast

Hosted by: Student Counselling Services and Peer Wellness Educators
When: Monday, November 13 | 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Where: Wellness Centre – 1D24 (Duckworth Centre)

Let’s Thrive by starting the week off right with a free breakfast! Come by the Wellness Centre to blend your own smoothie with a bike-powered blender! Smoothie supplies, coffee, and other breakfast treats will be provided. Grab your breakfast and go or stay a while to tour our space, find out about student counselling and health services, or just say hi!

Boardgames in the Library

Hosted by: UWinnipeg Library

Where: Library Journal Backstacks Room

Come to the UWinnipeg Library’s fifth floor periodicals reading room to enjoy playing a selection of board games courtesy of Across the Board Game Café! A staff member from the café will be on hand to orient and assist.

Keep Calm and Fidget On

Where: Wellness Centre – 1D24 (Duckworth Centre)

Fidgets can help us regulate, soothe our nervous systems, and decrease anxiety and stress. Drop in to the Wellness Centre to make your own fidgets, try some new ones out, and talk with the Peer Wellness Educators.

ASSC Key Chain Extravaganza

Hosted by: Aboriginal Student Services Centre
When: Wednesday, November 15 | 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: Riddell Atirum

Take a moment to relax and join ASSC staff and mentors as you make a Bead Key Chain for your backpack or pocket. ASSC will provide the supplies, pony beads (various colours), leather and key ring. All are welcome!

Wise Mind Webinar

Hosted by: Student Counselling Services
When: Wednesday, November 15 | 12:30–1 p.m.
Where: Online – Webinar Wednesday

This Webinar Wednesday event covers the three states of mind: Emotional Mind, Reasonable Mind, and Wise Mind. Sometimes you may find that your emotions are taking over and impacting your decisions and behaviours, and other times you may be guided only by logic and reason. Wise Mind is a balance of both feeling and thinking. Learning about Wise Mind, and how to access it, how it can help you manage stress, deal with challenging situations, and improve your overall well-being.

Bhangra Workshop (Indian Dance)

Hosted by: International, Immigrant & Refugee Student Services
When: Wednesday, November 15 | 12–2 p.m.
Where: Bulman Centre

Bhangra is a lively and energetic dance style that originated in the Punjab region of India. It combines vibrant movements, rhythmic footwork, and energetic music to create a festive and celebratory atmosphere. No dance experience? No problem! Our instructor will guide you step-by-step, making it accessible for participants of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner or have some dance background, this workshop is perfect for anyone looking to learn, have fun, and stay active.

Set a SMART savings goal

Vision Boards

Hosted by: Campus Living
When: Thursday, November 16 | 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
Where: UWSA's The Hive

Vision boards provide a tangible and aesthetic overview of your goals. They can help motivate you to make necessary changes and inspire you to grow or think differently about certain situations. Vision boards are relatively easy (and enjoyable!) to make, and require no specific training or supervision.

Friday, November 17

Downtown Safety Presentation

Hosted by: Student Counselling Services & Downtown Community Safety Partnership
When: Friday, November 17 | 12:30–1:30 p.m.
Where: Rice Building – Room 1Ri50

Join us to learn more about the Downtown Community Safety Partnership (DCSP). This presentation will inform us of the ways the DCSP is working together to create a healthy, safe, and connected downtown, and includes how they got started, the area they cover, and their different teams and their functions. Importantly, you will learn how the DCSP teams assist with non-emergency, non-violent safety and wellness concerns in our downtown area, and what services may apply to you or those you interact with downtown!

UWinnipeg goes to The Leaf

Hosted by: Campus Sustainability Office
When: Friday, November 17 | 1–4 p.m.
Where: The Leaf

The CSO is sponsoring a limited number of UWinnipeg students to take a trip to the new indoor horticultural attraction at Assiniboine Park which features tropical and Mediterranean biomes, and a butterfly garden. Take a break from studying and transport yourself to some warmer weather for an afternoon. Transportation will be provided, and this is a wheelchair accessible event.
