The mission of The University of Winnipeg Security Services is to provide a safe, secure and healthy learning, living and working environment for its students, faculty, staff and visitors, while preserving a philosophy of unhindered community access.

Security Services at The University of Winnipeg is a community-oriented service. The department serves the University community primarily through its security function. Security Services also forms partnerships with the local community associations, the Downtown and West End BIZ associations. These partnerships allow The University of Winnipeg Security Services to help deal with broader community outreach issues. Security Services is a member of the Downtown Security Network, run by the Downtown BIZ Association. This Network provides its members with information on security issues affecting the downtown area.

Security Services collaborates with The University of Winnipeg.  Students’ Association (UWSA) to provide the SafeWalk program. The SafeWalk program is operated during the Fall and Winter sessions. SafeWalk will provide students, staff, and faculty with an escort to their car or bus stop within a one-block radius of the University. The hours of operation of this program are Monday to Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. To arrange for a SafeWalk attend or call the Security office.

Security Services also provides safe escorts to members of the University community either through the SafeRide program. This program is intended to get students, faculty, and staff safely to their bus stop, vehicle or residence situated within the patrol area boundaries of; William Avenue to the north, Assiniboine Avenue to the south, Sherbrook Street to the west and Main Street to the east. SafeRide operates until 10:45 p.m. during the fall and winter sessions. To arrange for a SafeRide, attend or call the Security Office.

The University of Winnipeg Security Services works closely with the Winnipeg Police Service, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, other City of Winnipeg departments along with various Federal and Provincial departments all in an effort to fulfil our mission.
