ECON-7305 (3 credits): Economic Development

This course analyzes several topics central to the economic growth and development of developing nations. It reviews theories of economic growth, and studies several recent empirical applications of growth models including the effects of disease and other aspects of health on economic growth and the economic consequences of climate change.

The course then focuses on more specific issues relating to institutions and policies and their impacts on economic development. This includes a discussion of quantitative measures of institutional quality and their impacts, the role of natural resources, the effectiveness of foreign aid and the importance of land markets and property rights.
