Undergraduate Programs

The undergraduate study of economics provides a comprehensive understanding of how the economy operates at both micro- and macro-levels. Using an analytical, problem-solving approach, students learn the theoretical, empirical and institutional aspects of modern economics, and can apply these tools to make informed judgments about current economic policies.

The Department of Economics offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in the 3-year, 4-year and Honours programs in Economics (ECON program). We also offer a specialized 4-year BA degree in Economics and Finance (EFIN program).

Students not majoring in ECON or EFIN have the option of doing a Minor in Economics. This requires completing 18 credit hours in the following ECON courses: 1102, 1103, 2101, 2102 and two additional ECON courses at the 2000 or 3000 level. Business major students interested in doing a Minor in Economics may wish to take the following two ECON courses: 2315 and 3311.
