UNITED Health & RecPlex Sod Turning

Through the generous support of the Province of Manitoba and City of Winnipeg, The University of Winnipeg is building a multi-sport Health &RecPlex that will help alleviate the chronic shortage of indoor recreational space in Winnipeg, enhance the UWinnipeg student experience and offer neighbourhood youth and residents unsurpassed recreational opportunities.

The state of the art, indoor green space will accommodate a multitude of sports such as soccer, flag football and track and field, as well as cultural and community events.

The Partners who are developing the UNITED Health and RecPlex on The University of Winnipeg campus are: The University of Winnipeg Community Renewal Corporation is the developer of the project; headed by UWCRC Managing Director Sherman Kreiner; the architect is Number Ten Architectural Group; the project manager is Re Solve Group Inc.; construction is by PCL Construction Canada Inc.; tree salvaging and recycling is by Wood Anchor.

Community Partners

A unique coalition of eighteen youth-serving agencies in Winnipeg called the Youth Agencies Alliance is offering input and advice to UWinnipeg as the new Field House takes shape. Groups such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Rossbrook House, Spence Neighbourhood Association, Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre and West Broadway Centre are keenly interested in partnering with UWinnipeg to provide more recreational opportunities to inner city youth.

UWinnipeg’s Community Commitment

An integral part of The University of Winnipeg's proposal is its commitment to providing access to the facility for inner city children and youth, particularly from the surrounding neighbourhoods.  UWinnipeg will set aside significant time each week in both the soccer and hockey facilities for community use.  This includes use by school groups during school hours, use for community teams during prime time hours, open public use for community residents, and summer use for camp programs.
