Arielle Tetrault

My name is Arielle Tetreault and I went to John Taylor Collegiate, graduated in 2009.

I’ve loved Classics since I was 7 or 8 years old, before I even knew that that’s what you’re supposed to call it. I got into this area through reading stories until I discovered Greek myths and everything flew off from there. Today I like learning about all types of myths and the people who came up with them but Greco-Roman stories are still my favourite.

As to our Classics Department at the University of Winnipeg, it's awesome; whether you want to learn about myths like me, the deaths of the Roman emperors or the day to day life of a barbarian. The UWCSA (Classics Students' Association) has people who have been in the classes and have seen it all. All of whom are completely willing to help. Even the Prof.’s in our department are willing, as long as the door is open and you knock first.

But the UWCSA members don’t just study all the time; we throw a mean social, see movies, and have potlucks. All the while talking about what we love most – and sometimes it doesn’t even revolve around Latin.

In the future... I’m planning on being a double major – Classics and Anthropology – so that I can go into Museum Studies after my undergraduate degrees. But we’ll see where life takes me. All you need do is remember to learn lots, live a long time and make sure you laugh as much as you can.
