Ma Mawi Program

The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre (Ma Mawi) is an Aboriginal organization that works to support families. The organization has collaborated with the Department of Urban and Inner-City Studies to arrange for some of their staff members to work toward their degrees with a Major in Urban and Inner-City Studies. In January 2008, the Ma Mawi Program started with a group of these Ma Mawi staff/UW students taking “Introduction to Urban and Inner-City Studies”.

On Fri. Dec. 2, 2011, a celebration was held at the Ma Mawi sites for four Ma Mawi Program students who were awarded the 30-credit hour Certificate in Urban and Inner-City Studies. The Certificate is an achievement in and of itself, but the 30 credit hours required for the Certificate will also count toward their degree programs.
