Associate Dean of Arts - Biography
Dr. Fiona Green
Fiona Green is a University of Winnipeg alumnus. She has her MA in Women's
Studies from the University of York (England) and her PhD in IDP from the
University of Manitoba. She has been teaching in the Faculty of Arts at
the University of Winnipeg for over two decades, where she is
Co-Director of the Institute for Women's and Gender Studies and the
former Chair of the Department of Women's and Gender Studies.
Her books Feminist Mothering in Theory and Practice, 1985-1995: A Study in Transformative Politics (2009), Practicing Feminist Mothering
(2011), and various journal articles explore the agency of mothers and
children and the ability
of feminist motherlines to contribute to feminist theorizing and
praxis.Dr. Green's co-edited collection Maternal Pedagogies: In and Outside the Classroom (2011) explores teaching and learning experiences of mothers and feminists. Her study of media representation of mothers, most
notably in the reality TV shows Supernanny, Crash Test Mommy and Wife
Swap, can be found in the journal Storytelling, and Mediated Moms: Motherhood and Popular Culture (2012). Currently Dr. Green is exploring two new fields of study: the ethics of mommy blogging and the practices of parents who are raising children who are free in their gender identity and expression. She anticipates her forthcoming co-edited book Chasing Rainbows: Exploring Gender Fluid Parenting Practices to be published in 2013.
