Classics Student Colloquium

Mon. Jan. 30, 2023

Colloquium presenters and their chosen topics.

The University of Winnipeg Classics Students' Association hosted their sixth annual Colloquium this year on January 27th, 2023. Six excellent students presented a variety of topics touching on many subfields of Classical Studies and beyond. The Colloquium was kicked off with a 15 minute excerpt from Cicero's First Catilinarian, a speech presented in the original Latin by Cinna Baran, a third year Philosophy and Classics student. This garnered a standing ovation from everyone in attendance including President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Todd Mondor and Vice-President Research and Innovation, Dr. Gino Distassio.

"It was our honour and pleasure to plan and organize the colloquium again this year - not only because it has become an important tradition for the UWCSA, but also because we really value the opportunity to create a platform in which our peers can share their research and interests. We would like to thank the presenters for their participation, and highlight our immense appreciation for the support from our peers, the Classics department faculty and UWinnipeg as a whole - for this event and all other UWCSA activities throughout the year.” - Marina Milne and Colton Van Gerwen, President and Vice-President UWCSA

Every student presented their thesis with poise and answered questions, posed to them by their peers and faculty alike. Their topics were interdisciplinary and ranged widely, demonstrating that Classics research touches on methodologies and topics from across the Arts and Sciences.
