Radiation Safety
The Radiation Safety Officer at The University of Winnipeg is Dr. Geetika Bassi, please contact safety office at safety@uwinnipeg.ca if you have any questions regarding the health protection of the person as it relates to the use of radioactive materials and equipment emitting radiation.
The Radiation Safety Program at UWinnipeg consists of three parts:
- Radioisotopes/ Radioactive Materials (the inventory is up to date on campus optics: Radioisotope Inventory
- Radiation Emitting Devices (e.g. X-rays, inventory up to date on campus optics: X-ray Equipment - Asset Types - Assets • CampusOptics)
- Laser Safety
Before handling/purchasing radioisotopes at the UWinnipeg, workers must complete Radiaiton Safety Training (Nexus course) and submit Internal Radioisotope Permit application (Radiation Safety Permit). These permits are reviewed and approved by Radiation Safety Committee.
