Anti-Imperial Solidarities and Canadian Complicity
From the Caribbean to Iran
Early 2026 has seen a marked escalation in US-Western backed actions with global repurcussions. The US bombings of Caribbean citizens at sea, military installations in Trinidad, the kidnapping of Venezuela's President Maduro, the increased drone attacks in Haiti, and the bloackade of fuel to Cuba following decades of fatal sanctions, place the entire Caribbean region in extreme precarity. These events are linked to the ongoing genocide in Palestine, the UAE-backed genocide in Sudan, the crises in the Democratic Republic of Congo where child enslavement underpins global tech-economies, and, most recently, the illegal US-Israeli bombings of Iran and Lebanon. This roundtable makes connections across hemispheres by naming Canada's own complicity in these Western imperial actions, from arms trading to extensive mining interests, and considers what committed anti-imperial solidarity in Canada should look like at this time.
