Educational Effectiveness.
The United Centre for Theological Studies
In accordance with the Standards of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), The United Centre for Theological Studies publishes a public Statement of Educational Effectiveness.
The Mission Statement, the United Centre for Theological Studies (formerly the Faculty of Theology), recognizes the diversity both in our student body and the context in which we find ourselves as we seek to provide program that meets the goals of academic excellence and vocational training for a variety of ministries.
From 2012-13, students were asked to measure their personal growth during their time at the United Centre (formerly the Faculty of Theology). The three top areas students thought they felt stronger were: respect for other religious traditions, self- knowledge, and enthusiasm for learning.
MDiv. graduates were asked to indicate their satisfaction with progress in skills related to future work. The top five areas were: knowledge of other religious traditions, ability to use and interpret scripture, ability to preach well, knowledge of church doctrine and history.
Students were asked to explore the their satisfaction with the with their experience at the United Centre for Theological Studies. The three most important sources were: “I have felt accepted within this school community,” the school has tried to be an inclusive community”, and “I have grown spiritually”.
Over 90% of our students have been and continue to be part-time students who enter the program as adult learners either seeking a second career or for continuing study.
Graduate statistics:
50% of our students began prior to 2007.
25% of our students began in 2007.
25% of our students began in 2009.
Average Completion Time for our 2014 Graduates:
Bachelor of Theology: 6 years
Master of Divinity: (one student) 12 years
Master of Arts in Spiritual Disciplines and Ministry Practices: 8 years
Master of Sacred Theology (one student) 5 years
The United Centre for Theological Studies is not a denominational school therefore, our students come from a variety of denominations and faith traditions. A few of our students seek placement in a congregational setting but a majority of our students see their vocation in chaplaincy and spiritual care.
One of our graduates who is employed in a Senior position in Chaplaincy has said of her experience in our program:
“I appreciated studying at The United Centre for Theological Studies (formerly the Faculty of Theology), as I was able to fulfill my course requirements while continuing to work full time. Graduating with the MA SDMP has enhanced my career in healthcare and helped me to move into management in the Spiritual Health Care field at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre.”
