India Centre for Academic, Business and Community Excellence

The University of Winnipeg and The India Association of Manitoba signed an agreement to create the India Centre for Academic, Business and Community Excellence. This centre will work to promote the academic, business, community and public education contributions of the Indo-Canadian community, and by extenstion, the relationship and understandings between our two countries, Canada and India

The Centre has a Board that consists of:

  • Dr. Sylvie Albert, Dean of Business and Economics, and Dean of PACE (Professional, Applied and Continuing Education)
  • Anupam Sharma, Director of Operations, Dakota Ojibway Trival Council
  • Robert Daniels, CEO of Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council
  • Terry Duguid, Director, Northern Sustainable Prosperity Initiative
  • Dr. Manish Pandey, Economics Professor
  • Jean-Pierre Parenty, President and CEO of Parenty-Reitmeier Inc
  • Hardev Sandhu, Partner, London Limos and President of the India Association of Manitoba
  • Dr. Pawan Signal, Professor and Director, Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Community Leader

The establishment of the India Centre is about the undertaking of initiatives in a more coordinated, formalized and institutional setting. The India Centre will raise awareness among the peoples of Canada and India about the common outlooks and values that promote liberal democratic and multiculturally diverse societies.

Work for the India Centre is driven by the following needs:

Promotion and facilitation of enhanced understanding and relationship between India and Canada

Providing a forum for interested members and organizations in Manitoba, and elsewhere across Canada, to carry out initiatives in a coordinated and systematic manner

Provision of the forum in which the Indo-Canadian community can participate and contribute to policy and outlooks for the facilitation and promotion of bi-lateral relationships between India and Canada

Past Activities:

Science within Spirituality

Approximately, 80 people gathered on January 20th, 2014 at the Convocation Hall at The University of Winnipeg to participate in a Public Forum on "Science within Spirituality" convened jointly by the India Centre and the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council.

Possible Future Activities:

  • Youth led initiatives that engage youth of our two communities through initiatives, such as, student exchanges
  • "Let's Talk India", an annual conclave with The University of Winnipeg and the Indo-Canadian Community
  • Serve as a resource base for interested entities and people with an interest in India-Canada opportunities and relationships
  • Identify, facilitate and promote collaboration and partnership in areas of interest involving Indian and Canadian universities, business sectors, community and social sectors
  • Host and/or house cultural events
