Campus Development
Current Improvements - updated November 2, 2011
Update on Significant Initiatives - updated June 2011
The University of Winnipeg is moving ahead with an ambitious campus and community redevelopment plan. The Campus Development Plan, released in September 2007, is the result of extensive campus and community consultations. It proposes a holistic approach to campus and community development that breaks down barriers between the university and the neighbourhood. Development of the plan was spearheaded by UWinnipeg's Community Renewal Corporation (UWCRC).
UWCRC acts as the development arm of the university, and manages many of the development projects on its behalf. The Campus Development Plan will transform our campus in exciting ways for years to come.
Regular progress reports on this important work will appear on this page. Below is a description of the nature of the work taking place in each location and the expected impact on access:

An historic $4 million dollar gift from Winnipeg business icons and philanthropists John and Bonnie Buhler to The University of Winnipeg announced Friday, January 22, 2010 supported construction of one of downtown's signature buildings at 460 Portage Avenue, the Buhler Centre, and provided financial support to business students with special scholarships.
$3 million of the donation allows UWinnipeg to consolidate its entire Faculty of Business and Economics inside the Buhler Centre at the corner of Portage Avenue and Colony Street, and includes state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs and meeting spaces. The additional $1 million creates the Buhler Knowledge Access Fund to provide ongoing business scholarships within the Faculty of Business and Economics to outstanding students and those in need, including single parents and those with lower incomes.
In addition to the Faculty of Business and Economics, the eco-friendly Silver LEED Buhler Centre is home to UWinnipeg's Division of Continuing Education and Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art.

The University is creating a new, modern 6,000-square foot bookstore inside the former bus depot, which will be the anchor tenant in a retail plaza. In partnership with a private firm, it will become one of downtown's largest bookstores. In addition to meeting the course requirements of UWinnipeg students, the bookstore will have expanded trade books, magazines and general merchandise for customers from the downtown and the surrounding neighbourhood. It is slated to open for business in November 2010. On-line service is available 24/7 at http://universityofwinnipeg.bkstr.com

New classroom space - lower level
An additional 10 classrooms with smart technology, a computer lab, offices, student lounge and meeting rooms is complete for occupancy, as scheduled, in September 2009.
