Building Updates

July 30, 2025 - RexPlex update

While the wildfire situation remains devastating for many, more hotel accommodations have become available, and some evacuees have been able to return home. As the number of people staying at shelters decreases, emergency response organizers are consolidating locations to better focus stretched supports. As a result, the use of the Axworthy Health and RecPlex as an emergency shelter is winding down. Effective immediately parking is available in the RecPlex, and the building is expected to fully reopen to the university community and the public by August 5.

The situation remains fluid, and the University remains in conversation with the Province and other partners on supporting evacuees. Any further changes or updates will be shared on this page.

The University is grateful to everyone who supported this response effort. We look forward to welcoming our campus community back to the RecPlex next week.
