Biography:

Dr. Fiona Joy Green is a feminist mother and Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies who believes in the power of revolutionary feminist parenting. She’s interested in the agency of children and parents, in gender identities, and in the ability of matroreform and feminist motherlines to contribute to feminist parenting, feminist theorizing and feminist praxis.

Professor Green has held the positions of Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts, and Chair, Department WGS at the University of Winnipeg. She is also the founder and first Director of the Institute for Women’s and Gender Studies (2006-2015). She teaches a range of Women’s and Gender Studies undergraduate courses from first year to honours, and she is an adjunct professor at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Education and in the Department of Community Health Sciences.

Dr. Green holds an Interdisciplinary PhD (Education, Sociology and Women’s Studies). Her research interests include feminist parenting, feminist/maternal pedagogies, female genital cutting, media representations of mothers, and mommy blogging. Her current areas of research include exploring parenting practices that support the gender fluidity of children and examining privacy matters related to social media. She is also the co-author of the website Family Blog Lines: Ta[l]king Care https://familybloglines.com/, which explores ways to invoke privacy values and boundry setting when thinking about family engagement with media and technologies in the liberatory tradition of feminism that recognizes advocacy and agency.
