“WGS provided me with a whole new consciousness and set of thought processes. It changes the way you think about and view the world and social issues....My experience has given me a new capacity for critical thought that has helped me in both my career and research endeavours.”

Women's & Gender Studies
Women's & Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary program exploring gender-based experiences, cultures, and political economy.
Women's & Gender Studies is focused on developing a critical consciousness of societal inequalities including those based on social differences. It inquires into how people's lives are made to matter through relations of gender, race, class, religion, sexuality, age, and embodiment, and how systems of power including colonization, racism, and sexism bear upon our everyday experiences. Prioritizing the voices of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour, it fosters awareness of the realities and diverse lives of people of all genders and sexes, and advocates for social change.
The interdisciplinary nature of the Women’s & Gender Studies program allows you to customize your university education to fit your educational and career goals by taking courses from a number of different disciplines or areas.
You can get a Bachelor of Arts degree (3-year, 4-year, or Honours) with a Major in Women's and Gender Studies. Students taking an undergraduate degree in another Major may choose to add a Minor in Women's and Gender Studies as an additional area of interest.
Required High School Courses
You must meet The University of Winnipeg’s general admission requirements. No specific courses required.
