Re-Vision is a series of brief performances that address the demands of our time, through the highly individual lenses of each creator/performer.
The world has drastically changed in the last 18 months. That includes a global pandemic, racial tensions, the discovery of the remains of thousands of Indigenous children, ongoing climate-related disasters and more. It is a time of re-envisioning the kind of world we want.
From a foundation of concrete sources – image, music, props, selected text and scored action – each performer has created a visual, aural and textual collage, influenced and inspired by such art-forms as dance, literature, film, music, the visual and plastic arts, as well as popular culture and journalism.
“Creating art that challenges established boundaries demands commitment, risk and the necessity of making difficult choices,” says Borody.
Themes include: the notion that things are not as they appear to be; the collision between natural and manufactured landscapes; the examination of generational trauma and survival through fairy-tale worlds; rising above life’s barriers and external expectations; and the importance of determining self-identity amidst the tide of mass produced cultural information.
The performances are arranged as two separate live-streamed series featuring three 20 to 25-minute solo performances followed by a talk-back session.
