There will be two live workshops on March 13, 2026, for the AM and the PM. Participants are welcome to attend both workshops, and do not necessarily have to attend the workshop that matches their discipline.

EDI for Social Sciences and Humanities Researchers - 9am-11am, 2C14

This workshop provides a foundational understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion in Social Sciences and Humanities research environments and research design. Participants will explore how systemic inequities operate across departments, research centres, collaborative projects, fieldwork contexts, and community partnerships.

EDI for STEM Researchers- 1pm-3pm, 3RC060

This workshop provides a foundational understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion in STEM research environments and research design. Participants will explore how systemic inequities operate in laboratories, research teams, graduate supervision structures, funding systems, and innovation ecosystems. They will also examine best practices for inclusive lab culture, equitable mentorship, fair authorship practices, transparent recruitment, and bias-aware peer review processes.

The workshops will be lead by Dr. Nicole Kaniki, who is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management and Organization Studies at Huron University. She is also the Director and Founder of Senomi Solutions Inc., an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) consulting firm that supports institutions and organizations in developing and implementing EDI strategies. Dr. Kaniki has held several EDI leadership roles at post-secondary institutions across Canada, including Director of EDI in Research and Innovation at the University of Toronto and former Special Advisor on Anti-racism to the President at Western University. She holds an MSc in Kinesiology, a PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences with a focus on Measurement and Methods, and an MA in Women’s Studies and Feminist Research. Her expertise lies at the intersection of EDI, research methodologies, and organizational culture. Dr. Kaniki is passionate about social justice and employs an intersectional anti-racism and decolonization framework in her advocacy work.
