Course Selection and Registration

Once you have received an official "Letter of Acceptance" from The University of Winnipeg, you can start selecting courses and preparing to register.

  • Most programs at UWinnipeg are not laid out in a year-by-year format.  You are given some freedom to choose when and which courses to take.  You make your own course choices and create your own timetable.
  • Programs at The University of Winnipeg typically run from September to April.  Many students attend Fall Term (Sept to Dec) and Winter Term (Jan to Apr), and then work or travel during the summer.  But you can also take courses during Spring Term (various dates throughout May to August).
  • International students must enrol as full-time students.  This means that you need to register in courses in both Fall and Winter Terms (Sept-Apr) and take a minimum of 9 credit hours (i.e. 3 courses) per term.
  • In choosing your courses for first year, focus on courses numbers that start with "1" such as BUS-1201(3) Introduction to Business or PSYC-1000(6) Introductory Psychology.  If you want to take a "2" (or higher level) course, make sure that you have the pre-requisite(s).

For the steps in the registration process, see Registration Process and begin by reading "First-Year Essentials." Your next step will be to choose some courses; you may want to look at First Year Samples for some ideas. Then put together a timetable and register on WebAdvisor, the University's online registration system.

A valuable resource for first-year students is the Accepted Student Website which guides you through the entire process.
