Dennis Gupa invited as a Visiting Research Fellow and World Expert for Applied Theatre at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, a foremost university in the Philippines known for agriculture, environmental studies, and forestry. Dennis will re-stage “Gossip with Whales” an online project he developed during the pandemic as an artist in residence at the Ocean Networks Canada. Part of his one month fellowship will be gathering artists, scholars, scientists, and community leaders who are working on the intersections of arts, performance and science for a one day symposium to explore ecological stewardship and advocacy. Along this fellowship, Dennis was selected as World Expert for University of the Philippines’ World Experts’ Lecture Series. In this program he will deliver lectures on applied theatre and his pedagogy and work that connects University of Winnipeg to global practice of applied theatre. His fellowship will center on ecological issues on ocean, lakes, and rivers and how theatre and performance research can mobilize community and global connections in responding to climate crisis.
