Experiential Learning Fund Supports Responsible Practices in Theatre
Mon. Jun. 30, 2025
The University of Winnipeg Experiential Learning Fund has once again supported an initiative to incorporate environmental sustainability and accessibility practices into a production at the Department of Theatre and Film. Thanks to this support, instructor and director Hope McIntyre will be building on last year's pilot project.
"Forward" was presented in February 2025 and for the first time offered a sensory-friendly performance, in addition to ASL interpretation and audio description. An accessibility guide was created for patrons by Research Assistant Carolin Schroeder and a disability consultant engaged. In addition, tracking was done of all production elements in order to highlight options for reuse and thanks to the incredible team, alongside consultant Daina Leitold, the show's environmental footprint was very small.
A lot was learned and it will be exciting to expand further into this important work in the coming season.
Applications are currently being accepted for a student Research Assistant to support the next year of this project.
