Observing String Theory: Hot Strings and Gravitational Waves
String theory, the leading theory of quantum gravity (and all of particle physics), postulates that fundamental particles are really vibrating 1D strings. We will discuss properties of hot strings, how the early universe might have been filled with them, and the gravitational waves that those hot strings would produce. These gravitational waves are a robust prediction of interesting models in string theory, and they might be observable soon!
Bio: Dr. Andrew Frey joined the University of Winnipeg in 2011. His research ranges from phenomenological particle physics to string theory with a special focus on cosmology and extra dimensions.
This will be a joint event, hosted by UofW and WITP (Winnipeg Institute for Theoretical Physicists)
