New! Intercultural Mentor Positions

Study Abroad - Outbound Exchange

The Exchange Office is excited to launch our 2021-22 Intercultural Mentor (IM) Positions!

The IM Project is a video campaign that illustrates how an outbound mobility experience (Exchange) impacts a student's intercultural awareness - your intercultural journey!

As a UWinnipeg IM, you will be asked to submit a series of vlogs and posts to share your intercultural journey with other students, so that we can follow along your journey!  The project culminates in a professional video, highlighting the experience.  Don't worry -- the Exchange Office will be there to help you with guiding questions and support along the way!

As an IM, you will receive a $4,000 stipend, to be used towards your exchange.

Check out this video by Ashley Dunlop for more information on the IM Project, Director of Student Recruitment, Admissions and IIRSS for more information.

Your IM Video Application

Your application is your first video submission! This is our chance to get to know you.  Create a 2-4 minute video, introducing yourself to us.  Be sure to cover:

  • Who you are and what you are studying at UWinnipeg
  • Why you are interested in going on Exchange
  • What you hope to learn
  • Something to show us your personality!  A hidden talent, your hobby... anything that helps us get to know you

Entries will be assessed by a panel, and three students will be selected. An important outcome of the outbound mobility project is to support students from groups who are underrepresented in exchanges.
Therefore, the 3 positions will be prioritized as follows:

  • One position for an Indigenous student
  • One position for a student from the newcomer community
  • One open position

Technical Details

There is not need or expectation that students will be using professional video equipment, editing software, etc. to create their entry.  A video show on a phone or webcam is just fine! The important part  is to help us get to know you... we will work together with the IMs on camera tips, etc. down the road.

To submit the video:

  1. Login to your UWinnipeg NextCloud account
  2. Upload your video
  3. Share it with Ashley Dunlop:

Deadline for submission is February 15.
