Student Experiences

Briana EdwardsMy experience at the University of Winnipeg was nothing short of life changing. As a student from Jamaica, I thoroughly enjoyed making long lasting friendships with students who came from Tanzania, India and other countries. I am also extremely grateful for the cultural experiences I was able to participate in, like Pumpkin Carving, which was really fun!

I will forever cherish the care displayed by the International Admissions staff at U of W as they worked endlessly to ensure my time was memorable. I would highly recommend U of W to any university student wanting to participate in a cultural exchange program!

My name is Jeanine, and I was a exchange student at the University of Winnipeg from September 2021 till April 2022 coming from Germany. These eight months I got to spend in Winnipeg were amazing and enriching in so many ways. I had the opportunity to deepen my academic focus through the extensive range of courses offered at the University and made valuable friendships and connections. Through the exchange program events that were organized by the University, other exchange students and I got to experience the Canadian culture and participate in fun fall and winter activities.

All in all, I had a blast. I hope my shared experience motivates you to take the step and go abroad. Take care and keep warm in the Winnipeg winter! 😊

Mariana Herrera Gallegos How can I describe my experience at The University of Winnipeg?  Simply life-changing.  I met people from all around the globe, some of which turned into life long friendships, I am certain.  At UW, I had the chance to take some Writing and Gender Studies courses that I wouldn't be able to take at my home university.  This helped me grow much more academically while at the same time, I grew personally, learning to adapt to a different culture.  I got to spend 4 months in Winnipeg, from September - December, allowing me to experience a bit of summer, fall and the Canadian winter (coming from Northern Mexico, jeez!).  I got to play in the snow for the first time and saw polar bears at the zoo!  I felt like a little girl again.  I also learned a lot about Canadian and Manitoban history and culture because Winnipeg is filled with museums.  There are a lot of chances to explore and have fun.
I will forever be grateful to the professors, Campus Living staff, Exchange Office and all the people who helped me adapt to the Winnipeg lifestyle, always lending a helping hand which made my experience so amazing.  Thanks for opening my eyes to a world beyond my hometown. Who knows?  I might even come back for my Master's.

Hasta pronto, Winnipeg!
