What They Can Teach Us: Our Trilingual Oral History Resource

What They Can Teach Us: Stories from German-Canadian Women, 1950-1993 is a trilingual (English, French, German) online resource that promotes the knowledge and secondary use of oral history for learning and teaching. It encourages teachers and students alike to engage with history in a critical way and promotes an understanding of historical nuances through the eyes of individuals. The website features unedited audio recordings and transcript excerpts from oral history interviews with four German immigrant women who migrated to Canada in the 1950s and shared their stores with history professor Dr. Alexander Freund in 1993. These interviews can be explored unguided or through four lesson plans that use the historical thinking framework to help users learn how to understand and appraise historical sources.
