Creating Inclusive Workplaces with Dr. Tanya De Mello

The University of Winnipeg is excited to bring back Dr. Tanya (Toni) De Mello for an upcoming keynote webinar, Creating Inclusive Workplaces, on Wednesday, May 17, 2:30–4:30 p.m. via Zoom (no registration is required and no recording will be available). All staff and faculty are encouraged to attend.

In this webinar, Dr. De Mello will explore the ways in which employees can bring their "wholeselves" to work. With a focus on dismantling systemic discrimination, she will share practical steps for tackling everyday microaggressions and creating anti-oppressive spaces. The session will be interactive.

Dr. Tanya (Toni) De Mello is a human rights lawyer with a unique background in economics, finance and operational management. With experience working in both the private and nonprofit sectors, she has co-founded two NGOs and worked for the United Nations in humanitarian aid. Tanya completed her doctorate at the University of Toronto on bias in hiring in 2020, and she is a leading expert in equity, diversity and inclusion in Canada. She works at Toronto Metropolitan University (recently renamed) as the Vice-President of Equity and Community Inclusion. She was previously a lecturer, a Director of Human Rights, and served as the Assistant Dean of Student at Canada's newest law school, Lincoln Alexander Law.
