New Criminal Justice Department Chair

As of July 1, 2025, Dr. Kevin Walby will take on his new role as Chair of the Criminal Justice Department, succeeding Dr. Kelly Gorkoff, who served in the role for six years. Dr. Gorkoff led the department through a period of significant change, including the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank her for her dedicated leadership and wish her well on her much-deserved administrative leave.

Dr. Walby is a Professor in the department and has been with the University of Winnipeg for 12 years. His research focuses on policing, security, and surveillance. He is also part of the Walls to Bridges (W2B) Collective at the University of Winnipeg and, in 2024, played a central role in organizing Manitoba’s first W2B instructor training for new educators joining the program.
