Janae Dandewich
Education: Bachelor of Arts Honours in Criminal Justice - University of Winnipeg
Research Interests: Research focuses on the issue of sexual violence, specifically the way that sexual assault is impacting society, with a focus on how the police treat this crime. Improving police response to sexual assault and acknowledging the crime as a social problem is important and a main focus for my research. My master's thesis will address the use of rape myths by the Winnipeg Police Service in their media communications, and the way this language is being used by news outlets and social media users.

Elise Diplock

Research Interests: My research interests include the prevalence of missing persons and chronic missing persons in Canada, missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and missing persons’ cases in the media. Other areas of my research interests include children and youth advocacy centers and quantitative/qualitative research methods.

Research Interests: My current research interests lie in sex work, specifically, I seek to explore how evolution of technology and media have made it easier for sex workers to conduct their work online, and how the labour process online differs from street-based sex work.

Research Interests: Current research interests involve large and small institutions for persons with intellectual disabilities, life after institutionalization, and harm and violence that persons with intellectual disabilities face presently and historically. Also interested in the social construction of disabilities and impacts that the criminal justice system and other systems (government, housing, education) have on persons with disabilities in the community.

Danielle Hermann
Education: Bachelor of Arts Honours in Psychology - University of Winnipeg
Research Interests: My research interests include examining the diversity of Canadian juries, and general citizen perceptions of jury duty. I am also interested in looking at uncovering the reasons behind Canadian citizens’ requests for exemption from jury duty, and the potential impact of the way the jury summons is framed, on whether or not someone requests an exemption. I aim to examine these topics through the intersections of race, gender, and age.

Kyle Lowen

Research Interests: My research interests lay in practices of social urban control and order maintenance, specifically within business improvement districts. I am also interested in how ordinary large events within urban centres (such as daily sporting events or concerts hosted at large event centres) are policed, with particular interest in neoliberal logics that influence said practices.

Kelsie Zerebski
Education: Bachelor of Arts Honours in Sociology - University of Saskatchewan
Research Interests: My research interests include incarcerated populations both broadly and more narrow in provincial populations. I am a qualitative researcher with a passion for developing more knowledge in my community. My research interests are also in the reentry process for formerly incarcerated individuals and what that looks like in a Canadian context. An overarching theme of much of my research thus far has been on community and social issues within a Canadian context.
