Health Privacy Orientation for Researchers

Under Manitoba's Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), UWinnipeg researchers who work with personal health information (PHI) must receive training on health privacy protection. This training is available through Nexus. Please contact da.elves@uwinnipeg.ca to register. A pledge of confidentiality must also be signed. Completion of training and a pledge will also be required in advance of ethics and privacy approval under the forthcoming RITHIM/CHIPER initiative for research projects involving PHI.

This page replicates the content (but not the quiz) of the UWinnipeg Nexus course "Health Privacy Orientation for Researchers". It is presented here for reference/review purposes. In recognition that researchers involved in human participatory research must also complete the TCPS 2: CORE tutorial, Module 5 of which is dedicated to issues of privacy and confidentiality in research, this course is shorter than the health privacy course available to non-researchers.
