Biography:

Carol J. Harvey received the M.A (1st Class Honours) French Language & Literature, University of Edinburgh (1963), Licence ès Lettres, Université de Caen, France (1964), and PhD in Medieval Studies, University of Edinburgh (1969). She is currently Professor Emerita of French and holds the research position of Senior Scholar. She was the recipient of the Robson Award for Excellence in Teaching (1980), the Atchison Award for Community Service (1999), and the Erica & Arnold Rogers Award for Excellence in Research (2000). She was named a Knight in the Order of Academic Palms by the Government of France in 1988.

During the course of her career, she was Visiting Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University (1989), Visiting Professor at Université de Perpignan, France (1991-2), and Visiting Professor at Poitiers University, France (1995).

She is a long-time member of the Board of the Centre d'études franco-canadiennes de l'Ouest at Université de Saint-Boniface, and served as President from 2005-2009.  She is a member of various professional/scholarly organizations, notably the Canadian Society of Medievalists (CSM), of which she was President from 2002-4. She is co-editor of the Society's journal Florilegium, responsible for articles in French.

Research Interests:

Medieval French & Anglo-Norman poetry, theatre and verse romance; Francophone literature of Western Canada, including Gabrielle Roy.
