Marlisse Challe Title: Graduate Student

Degree: Master of Science
Thesis: Reconstructing life history and climate associations from teeth of polar bear and ringed seals in Western Hudson Bay
Supervisor: Dr. Jean-Pierre Desforges
Entry: Fall 2025

Research Interests:
Something that interests me is seeing how stresses—toxicological or environmental—affect an animal’s ecology. My project allows me to follow my interests and explore relationships that may exist with the biological data and environmental data on habitat change over time. I am looking at how widths of annual growth layer groups in polar bear and ringed seal teeth vary overtime, and identify patterns that align with environmental conditions and or predator-prey interactions.

Biography:
I am originally from BC where I graduated with a BSc (honours) from Thompson Rivers University in Ecology and Environmental Biology. I like how the MESC program allows me to interact with people that are doing research outside of science.
