Degree: Master of Arts
Thesis: Embodied Experiences of Climate Change in the Inner City
Supervisor: Dr. Julie Chamberlain
Entry: Fall 2025
Research Interests:
My research centres on embodiment, space, and climate change within urban inner city settings. I am interested in how feminist and decolonial approaches in geography can be used to understand lived experiences of environmental conditions in communities deeply affected by climate change. Through this work, my research aims to advance situated, justice-focused climate action in Winnipeg and similar urban environments.
Biography:
Hi! My name is Heather Taylor (they/she), and I have a BA in Geography from The University of Winnipeg. Much of my undergraduate studies focused on Urban and Inner City Studies, where I had the chance to work directly with inner city organizations through practicum-based roles in food security and disability justice. I remain involved in inner city life as a student researcher, crisis worker, and activist. As a settler academic living outside the inner city, I strive to bring decolonial and anti-oppressive values and ethics to my work alongside community members most impacted by climate change and environmental injustices in the MESC program and beyond. I am deeply grateful to my supervisor, Dr. Julie Chamberlain, and the Prairie Climate Centre team for their ongoing guidance and collaboration on this work.
