Indigenous Knowledge and Wisdom Centre (IKWC)
For their field placement, Hilary Uchenna Ezeh and Nowsheen Kamal, first-year students, were part of a collaborative effort with the Indigenous Knowledge and Wisdom Centre (IKWC) in Edmonton. They worked directly with the dedicated teams of IKWC, The Humble Lodge, kihcihkaw askî-Sacred Land, and the Whiskeyjack Art House.
Hilary and Nowsheen spent their time on field placement by assisting and observing the ways of Indigenous land-based education, Indigenous gender and sexual diversity teachings, including Cree concepts of "gender," tapahtêyimôkamik in the HeartLand, 2S inclusive spaces and The Humble Lodge project, Treaty Kit for Indigenous Youth, a board game for Indigenous history, and The Arramat Project.
“Our field placement with IKWC allowed us to experience Indigenous teachings, art, and relationships through a land-based teaching perspective. We are humbled to witness the communal activities and learn more about the Indigenous way of life.”
