In Memory of Geoff Scott

Global College mourns the passing of Dr. Geoff Scott on November 5, 2025.

Dr. Scott served as Principal of Global College from 2007- 2008. Working in collaboration with Lloyd Kornelsen, Dr. Scott played a vital role in several foundational projects during the early years of Global College. Together they strengthened the Global College's Summer Institute program, established a student advisory group, organized international conferences, supported the work of the community liaison office, and collaborated on projects with the newly established Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Dr. Scott’s leadership was instrumental in developing the interdisciplinary Human Rights and Global Studies (HRGS) degree, headed by Eliakim Sibanda, which was introduced as a thematic major in 2008.

A message from Dr. Neil Besner, former Provost and Vice-President, Academic on the passing of Geoff Scott:

"Geoff Scott, former Principal of the Global College (2007-2008), passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. When Geoff was the Principal, Lloyd Kornelsen was his Executive Director. I was honored to work with them as The Global College was my responsibility during those exciting years and after. Geoff played a vital role in creating the first degree in Human Rights in Western Canada; these were heady years for the College and everyone working in it, students, staff, and faculty. In the Global College and beyond, Geoff was widely known and admired as a generous citizen of the University. It was a rare privilege to work with him."
