Human Rights Faculty Members Attend 2025 CPSA Conference

Human Rights program faculty members were actively involved in the 2025 Annual Canadian Political Science Association (CPSA) Conference, held in Toronto from June 3- 5, 2025.
Drs. Kristi Kenyon, Matthew Hamilton, and Lloyd Kornelsen were panellists for a roundtable on "Human Rights Classrooms: Navigating Safe Spaces in Unsafe Times," chaired by Dr. Saad Khan.
As CPSA Teaching Section Chair, Dr. Kenyon organized workshops on "Human Rights Teaching" and "Teaching in Context: Why and How Location Matters," and co-organized a workshop on "Gender, Teaching and the Everyday" (with the Women, Gender and Politics Section).
Drs. Kenyon and Khan participated in a book roundtable for the forthcoming book "Human Rights in Canada and Internationally" (Emond Press, February 2026) with Dr. Dominique Clement (University of Alberta) and Dr. Christina Szurlej (St. Thomas University) titled “Exploring Contemporary Challenges and Perspectives in Human Rights,” where they presented their co-authored chapter on non-state actors.
Dr. Kenyon also coordinated a roundtable on research leave, with participants from Dalhousie, Waterloo, Saskatchewan, Memorial, and UBC.
Dr. Saad Khan presented two papers: "'Ethno-patriarchal' struggles in Karachi: Examining the role of Mohajir Women and empowerment through an intersectional lens” and “‘Behold a greater than themselves:’ Informing de-radicalization policy through lived experiences.”
Dr. Matthew Hamilton presented the paper, “Democracy and Damaged Life: On the Dialectics of Praxis and Critique.”
