Milad Mohammadzadeh

We’re proud to highlight Milad Mohammadzadeh (MA '2025) as a featured alum of the Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) program.

Born and raised in the Middle East, Milad’s early experiences were shaped by environments where violence and instability affected everyday life. From a young age, the idea of peace held deep meaning for him. When he discovered that a university program dedicated entirely to peace and conflict studies existed, he was immediately drawn to it. That initial curiosity quickly turned into conviction when he entered his first PACS class and encountered the diversity of perspectives among his classmates, an experience he describes as the beginning of a rich and meaningful learning journey.

Milad credits the PACS program with teaching him the importance of fairness, openness, and careful consideration of all sides of a situation. “To be fair and always keep an open mind, while considering every aspect of a situation, are lessons that the PACS program taught me,” he reflects.

His experience in the program extended beyond the classroom. Milad describes the coursework as enriching and up to date, supported by faculty who were approachable and deeply invested in student learning. He also valued the diversity of the PACS community and the range of research opportunities available, which he found both engaging and intellectually rewarding.

Most significantly, the program reshaped how Milad understands the world. He explains that PACS gave him a new lens through which to interpret global events and conflicts, prompting him to rethink his professional path and pursue work he considers meaningful. This shift, he says, was one of the most transformative outcomes of his studies.

Reflecting on his time in the program, Milad encourages current and prospective students to be confident in their perspectives and to fully immerse themselves in the PACS community. “Do not be afraid to have your own opinion and stand out,” he advises. He also emphasizes the importance of making the most of the experience by participating in events and engaging beyond coursework. “Enjoy your time in the program and take part in as many activities as possible.”

Milad’s journey reflects the core values of the Peace and Conflict Studies program, critical thinking, openness to diverse perspectives, and a commitment to meaningful engagement with the world.
